Smeal Students Learn Leadership and Management Skills Through THON

The countless hours of hard work and fundraising that go into each year’s Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon weekend are “for the kids,” but THON also provides many students with a variety of professional development opportunities they never expected. This year, the Penn State Smeal College of Business has four students on the Overall Committee for THON, more than 45 dancing for Smeal-related organizations, and many more involved in fundraising or dancing for other Penn State organizations.

Smeal Students to Connect with Employers at Spring Career Fairs

Penn State Smeal College of Business students will connect with potential employers next week in a series of targeted career fairs, including the Corporate Associate Career Fair, the Supply Chain Career Fair, and the Marketing Career Fair. Employers will seek students for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions. All career events will take place in the Atrium of the Business Building on the University Park campus.

Marketing Class Puts Theory to Work at Local Business

Undergraduate students in the Penn State Smeal College of Business put theory into practice last fall, developing integrated marketing plans for Webster’s Café and Bookstore located in downtown State College, Pa. Do Insiders Influence Insider Trading Laws?

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Rule 10b5-1, a regulation devised to clarify existing insider trading prohibitions, gives executives a way to legally plan trades of their company’s stock when they do not possess any relevant, non-public information. But research conducted by Penn State Smeal College of Business accounting researchers shows that insiders had significant influence on the parameters of Rule 10b5-1 in favor of less stringent regulations.
