Commencements, Receptions Set for Graduation Weekend
The Penn State Smeal College of Business has a slate of festivities scheduled to celebrate the spring 2012 commencement. The celebration begins with two events on May 5.
New Book, Formed in a Smeal Classroom, Explores How IT Is Rapidly Altering Business
A new book by John Jordan, clinical associate professor of supply chain and information systems at the Penn State Smeal College of Business, looks at how the latest trends in information management and technology are impacting business models and innovation worldwide. Information, Technology, and Innovation: Resources for Growth in a Connected World, published by Wiley, grew out of an undergraduate course on global information technology strategy that Jordan teaches at Smeal.
Two Smeal Grads Receive Alumni Achievement Awards
Two Smeal College of Business graduates are among the eleven Penn State alumni selected to receive the Penn State Alumni Association's Alumni Achievement Award, an honor for Penn State alumni who have achieved an extraordinary level of professional accomplishment by the age of 35.
Whiteman Named Sixth Dean of Smeal
Following a national search, Charles H. Whiteman has been named the Elizabeth L. and John P. Surma Jr. dean of Penn State's Smeal College of Business. Smeal College is among the largest and highly ranked business schools in the nation. Whiteman is expected to begin July 1, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.
Executive Insights: Sears CEO to Speak at Smeal April 13
Lou D'Ambrosio, president and CEO of Sears Holdings Corp., is scheduled to speak at the Penn State Smeal College of Business on April 13 as a guest of the college's executive speaker series, Leadership in Focus: Executive Insights. D'Ambrosio, a Smeal alumnus, will join Smeal Dean James B. Thomas for an interactive on-stage conversation at 11:15 a.m. in the Business Building's Struthers Auditorium (110 BB). The talk is free and open to the public.
Smeal to Host Conference Celebrating 'Powerful Women' in Business
The Penn State Smeal College of Business is hosting a conference in April to bring together women students, alumnae, and businesswomen for networking, professional development, and a celebration of women in business. Powerful Women Paving the Way, an annual conference hosted by Penn State Women in Business, will be held on Penn State's University Park campus on April 19 and 20. The event is open the public and attendees must register online by April 13. The cost is $99 ($30 for Penn State undergraduate students).

A movement started by two graduate students at Penn State has resulted in $47,000 being raised for two nonprofit organizations fighting child abuse and sexual assault.
Sloans Establish Trustee Scholarship at Smeal
Penn State alumnus Ronald Sloan and his wife, Barbara, have committed $50,000 to establish the Sloan Family Trustee Scholarship at the Penn State Smeal College of Business. With support from the University's Trustee Matching Scholarship Program, the gift's impact will be doubled, effectively resulting in the equivalent of a $100,000 scholarship.
Cynthia Ade and Jeffery Perrone Endow Trustee Scholarship to Honor Their Parents
Penn State alumni Cynthia Ade and Jeffrey Perrone have established the Cynthia Ade and Jeffrey Perrone Trustee Scholarship in the Penn State Smeal College of Business. With gift-matching funds from the Deloitte Foundation, a not-for-profit organization affiliated with Perrone's employer, Deloitte, the endowment will be valued at $125,000, and its impact will also be doubled with support from the University's Trustee Matching Scholarship Program.

Frances O'Sullivan, general manager of Integrated Supply Chain for IBM, is scheduled to deliver this year's Spisak Lecture in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the Penn State Smeal College of Business. Her talk, entitled "Reinventing the Modern Corporation: A Focus on Integrated Supply Chain," is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on November 10 in room 126 of Smeal's Business Building.
