Merit-Based Financial Aid Offered to 100 Percent of Smeal MBA Class of 2015
The Penn State Smeal College of Business MBA Program has announced that 100 percent of its incoming MBA class has received merit-based financial aid.
Merit-based financial aid awards are issued based on factors such as undergraduate grade-point average, standardized test scores, past work or leadership experience, and unique perspective to contribute to the class’ diversity, according to Stacey Dorang Peeler, MBA admissions director.
“We have seen exceptional support for the Penn State Smeal MBA Program from the college and the University, and donor gifts have been incredibly impactful in our ability to provide support to students as well.”

Merit-based financial aid includes both scholarships and offers of graduate assistantships (GAs), which both increased this year.
A new GA position was developed this year with the Penn State Lunar Lion project, which is competing for the Google Lunar X PRIZE in the mission to send a vehicle to the moon. In addition, Smeal’s Institute for the Study of Business Markets—one of the largest networks for practitioners, educators, and researchers of business-to-business marketing—and the Center for Supply Chain Research each continue to support a number of GAs, and the Smeal College supports several GAs as well.
Other financial support represented in the class of 2015 includes double last year’s number of Bunton-Waller Fellowships, supported by Smeal and the Penn State Graduate School, and a National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) Scholar.
“The class of 2015 is made up of students who we feel will be competitive in the global market, poised to do well academically, and representative of Smeal’s high professional standards,” said Dorang Peeler.
