Businessweek: Penn State Smeal EMBA Program Among Best Globally

Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked the Penn State Smeal College of Business Executive MBA Program in Philadelphia among the best EMBA programs worldwide, with Smeal ranking near the top on several key criteria.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (November 22, 2011) – Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked the Penn State Smeal College of Business Executive MBA Program in Philadelphia among the best EMBA programs worldwide, with Smeal ranking near the top on several key criteria.

The magazine ranks 66 of the world's leading EMBA programs in its biennial ranking, with Smeal's EMBA program grouped with 26 other schools in what Businessweek terms "second tier." About 100 other EMBA programs were not included in the ranking because they didn't meet certain criteria or polled poorly.

Businessweek separates out a dozen criteria that help make up the overall rankings, and the Smeal EMBA Program is ranked among the top five programs in three of them. Smeal ranks second globally in how well the EMBA instructors incorporate their students' knowledge and experiences in the classroom. The college's marketing curriculum is ranked third among all EMBA programs and its strategy curriculum is ranked fourth.

The Smeal EMBA Program also ranks among the top 20 programs in the categories of fulfilled student expectations, high-quality teaching, new ways of looking at problems, and high-caliber classmates.

The rankings are based on surveys of recent graduates and a poll of EMBA program directors. For more on the rankings, visit www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings.

Launched in 2001, the Smeal Executive MBA Program holds classes on alternating weekends at The ACE Conference Center in suburban Philadelphia. EMBA graduates earn the same internationally ranked and recognized MBA degree provided on campus in University Park, and the program is led by the same top faculty from Penn State's University Park campus. The program features personalized executive coaching, intensive communication training, a weeklong international immersion experience, and coursework focused on the unique challenges of the students' firms.
