Penn State Names Three Smeal Graduates as Distinguished Alumni

The Penn State Board of Trustees recently selected three Smeal College of Business alumni among the six recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award, the University's highest award for an individual. The 2010 recipients from Smeal are Joan Amble '75, executive vice president and corporate comptroller for American Express Co.; Daniel S. Mead '75, '77 MBA, chief operating officer of Verizon Wireless; and Richard L. Trumka '71, president of the AFL-CIO.

Changing the Real Estate Landscape at Smeal

The real estate industry has undergone quite a transformation over the past couple years. So too has the real estate environment at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business. Smeal's Institute for Real Estate Studies (IRES), as director Brent Ambrose says, was "formally restarted" in January of 2009. Established in 1985, IRES went dormant for a number of years and was reconstituted in the last two years with the creation of the Real Estate Advisory Board.
