Penn State, NYC Bar, And Houlihan Lokey Collaborate On M&A Executive Program

Penn State Executive Programs, in conjunction with the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, the New York City Bar, and international investment bank Houlihan Lokey, will host an executive education program in May for executives and managers involved in mergers and acquisitions.

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (March 18, 2009) – Penn State Executive Programs, in conjunction with The Penn State Dickinson School of Law, the New York City Bar, and international investment bank Houlihan Lokey, will host an executive education program in May for executives and managers involved in mergers and acquisitions.

"Executive Program in Mergers and Acquisitions: Producing a Positive Return in Troubled Times" is scheduled for May 5-7 at the New York City Bar facility in New York. The program features 32 top M&A professionals who will provide insights on both "Buy Side" and "Sell Side" issues.

Professor Samuel C. Thompson, Jr., director of the Center for the Study of Mergers and Acquisitions at The Dickinson School of Law, says that "this program is distinguishable from similar programs offered by other eminent business schools because the faculty consists exclusively of seasoned M&A professionals working on the cutting edge of M&A activity."

Despite the recession and a failure rate of more than 50 percent, mergers and acquisitions are increasingly undertaken by firms as a way to grow and gain competitive advantage. For M&A activities to be successful, firms need managers and executives who possess an in-depth understanding of the complex M&A process. Now more than ever, those who are responsible for M&A initiatives must understand the current issues and tactics to ensure that the transactions have positive results for their organizations.

This Penn State executive education program will provide just that understanding to attendees. At the end of the two-and-a-half day session, participants will be able to utilize a coherent framework and reliable M&A blueprint for analyzing, selecting, valuing, and executing a successful merger or acquisition. They will possess the knowledge to identify deals and matches that minimize risk and ensure a positive net present value transaction. Attendees will become more familiar with the key issues in drafting acquisition agreements and related M&A documents. And they will develop integration processes and procedures to ensure the success of transactions.

The program covers the market side, business side, and legal/regulatory side of mergers and acquisitions. Faculty professionals who work with M&A issues every day will offer strategic perspectives as well as practical approaches for immediate relevance, usability, and impact. Topics range from broad overviews to specific subjects like strategic considerations, drafting acquisition agreements, and firm integration.

The agenda is designed to benefit all managers and executives engaged in the M&A process, particularly CEOs, CFOs, COOs, division and business unit heads, and executives working in finance, strategy, law, and business development. Professionals in companies of all sizes—established firms as well as small and developing firms—and in investment banking, accounting, and law firms are encouraged to attend.

The program can be completed for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.
