UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (April 14, 2009) – The Smeal College of Business student organization Penn State Women and Business earned a couple of top honors at the Penn State Center for Student Engagement's annual Student Leadership and Service Awards banquet held last month at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Women in Business was named the 2009 Outstanding Organization of the Year, and the club's faculty adviser, Gus Colangelo, Smeal associate dean for undergraduate programs, was named the 2009 Outstanding Adviser of the Year.

This is the second time in four years that Women in Business earned the Outstanding Organization of the Year honors. The club also won the award in 2006. Last year, Women in Business was awarded the Outstanding Executive Board of the Year award and Penn State student organizations Delta Sigma Pi and Smeal Student Mentors shared the Organization of the Year honors.

Penn State Women in Business was founded in 1997 to increase the recruitment and retention of women students in the college and to create an environment in which students can discuss personal and professional issues affecting women. The club welcomes both male and female undergraduates of all majors and currently has more than 300 members.

Smeal has more than 30 active student organizations offering students the opportunity to enrich their educational experience outside of the classroom. The groups afford students the chance to gain valuable leadership skills while learning more about their fields of study.
