Report: Penn State Among Top Universities For Tech Entrepreneurs
A new report from The Kauffman Foundation lists Penn State as one of the top ten universities graduating founders of technology companies.
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (May 22, 2008) – A new report from The Kauffman Foundation lists Penn State as one of the top ten universities graduating founders of technology companies.
The study, "Education and Tech Entrepreneurship," was conducted to determine whether the popular image of tech companies being founded by college dropouts in their garages is accurate. To find out, the researchers surveyed 652 U.S.-born CEOs and heads of product development in engineering and technology companies established from 1995 through 2005.
They found that 92 percent of respondents held bachelor's degrees and 31 percent held master's degrees. While these tech entrepreneurs attended a wide variety of institutions, Penn State was listed among the top ten.
"While elite, highly ranked schools hold no monopoly on tech entrepreneurship, some elite schools are overrepresented in the ranks of these tech founders, and companies formed by these schools' graduates outperform those established by others," the researchers write.
The complete report is available online from the Kauffman Foundation.
