Research Forum To Examine The 'Paradoxes Of Digitization'

The Center for Digital Transformation at Penn State's Smeal College of Business will hold its semiannual Research Forum on Nov. 1 and 2 on Penn State's University Park campus.

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (October 24, 2007) – The Center for Digital Transformation at Penn State's Smeal College of Business will hold its semiannual Research Forum on Nov. 1 and 2 on Penn State's University Park campus.

Speakers from the Guidewire Group, Penn State, Socratic Technologies, and SpeedShape will discuss the "Paradoxes of Digitization" at the forum, which will take place in Smeal's Business Building and elsewhere around campus. Executives from AT&T Mobility, Capgemini, Deutsche Bank, Ernst & Young, IBM, SAP, Verizon, and Xerox are expected to attend.

Sessions will be devoted to examining the usability of digital devices, measuring information productivity, and understanding the art and science of data visualization. John Jordan, executive director of the Center for Digital Transformation, will conclude the session by outlining ten trends in information and technology expected to shape the next ten years.

"We're extremely fortunate to be able to hear from established experts and exciting startups in a setting conducive to frank dialogue and to thinking ahead of the headlines, as it were," Jordan said. "In the past, our research forums have generated deep thinking, productive contacts for our speakers and attendees, and, for us, an enhanced research agenda.

"The topics all hinge at the edge of theory and practice: Productivity is immediately applicable to the bottom line, usability remains perennially problematic with new technologies, and the demonstrations of visualization from Penn State labs and from startups below the radar literally let our folks see into the future," he said. "I anticipate yet another productive, thought-provoking session."
