UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (May 23, 2005)—Lewis Katz, former owner and managing partner of the New Jersey Nets basketball franchise, will offer the pre-commencement address to graduates of the Penn State Smeal College of Business Executive MBA Program during a ceremony on June 11 at University Park.
Katz, who served as chief executive officer of Kinney System Holding Corporation, a major parking company, from 1990 until 1998, now serves on the board of directors for Central Parking Corporation. The Temple University and Dickinson Law School graduate also established the Cherry Hill-based law firm of Katz, Ettin, Levine and Weber, which operates satellite offices in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
An active member of several boards, Katz was awarded the Bridge Builders Award from the Partners for Livable Communities for his work spanning racial and economic divides. Upon his purchase of the Nets in 1998, Katz pledged his share of the team's profit to benefit inner city schools and to children in Camden and other New Jersey cities.
Smeal's Philadelphia-based executive MBA Program offers mid-career managers, senior executives, and professionals the opportunity to develop core leadership competencies as they learn to lead corporate change, expand their analytical skills, design fully integrated business strategies, and build profitable business models. The current class of graduating students is the second to emerge from the 22-month program.
