Murray, Struthers To Speak At Commencement Ceremonies
Tim Murray (B.S. ’75), senior managing director at Bear Stearns, and Richard K. Struthers (B.S. ’77), vice chairman and chief lending officer of MBNA, will address graduates of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business in May as part of the college’s MBA pre-commencement and undergraduate commencement ceremonies, respectively.
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (March 29, 2005)—Tim Murray (B.S. ’75), senior managing director at Bear Stearns, and Richard K. Struthers (B.S. ’77), vice chairman and chief lending officer of MBNA, will address graduates of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business in May as part of the college’s MBA pre-commencement and undergraduate commencement ceremonies, respectively.
The MBA pre-commencement ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on May 8 in the HUB Alumni Hall and will precede the May 15 ceremony for master’s candidates in Penn State’s Graduate School. The Smeal undergraduate commencement will begin at 1:30 p.m. on May 15 in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Along with his position as senior managing director, Murray also serves as global manager of the Derivatives Middle Office at Bear Stearns, one of the leading global investment banking, securities trading, and brokerage firms in the world. The Derivatives Middle Office, with a staff of 130 in New York, London, Dublin, and Tokyo, includes areas such as trade analysis, transaction management, and documentation.
Murray was one of the first people to build a derivatives function at Bear Stearns, which has grown to include more than 500 people. Before joining the firm in 1993, he was part of the Derivatives Department at Kidder Peabody & Co., and he has also held senior positions at Drexel, Burnham, Lambert; Citibank; and Arthur Anderson.
Murray is a member of the Penn State Wall Street Initiative.
About Richard (Ric) Struthers
Struthers is responsible for all of MBNA's international operations, consumer finance, business lending, and the company’s American Express relationship. A member of the management team that established MBNA in 1982, he has more than 26 years of management experience in retail lending and has managed most of the major operating divisions of the company.
Extremely active at Penn State, Struthers was recognized as an Alumni Fellow in 1998 and a Distinguished Alumni Award recipient in 2002. He was a member of the Steering and Executive Committees of the Grand Destiny Campaign, a volunteer chair for the Penn State Annual Fund, and a past member of the Alumni Council. He is currently the chair of the Smeal College Board of Visitors.
He and his wife, Sharon, established The Struthers Family Scholarship, several undergraduate scholarships in the Smeal College, and have made generous contributions in support of the MBNA Career Services Center and the new Smeal building project.
