Advanced Manufacturing Forum To Discuss Development Of New Products & Processes
The Center for the Management of Technological and Organizational Change (CMTOC) at Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business will host its 53rd Advanced Manufacturing Forum March 20-21 at the Penn Stater Conference Center. The program, with the theme of managing the development of new products and manufacturing processes, will feature executive presentations from Ford Motor Company, Lutron Electronics, and Black & Decker.
A Generational Melting Pot

Smeal's Sharp Receives University's Highest Teaching Honor
Jeffery M. Sharp, Associate Professor of Business Law, has been selected to receive the Milton S. Eisenhower Award for Distinguished Teaching. The Milton S. Eisenhower Award for Distinguished Teaching recognizes excellence in teaching and student support among tenured faculty who have been employed full time for at least five years with undergraduate teaching as a major portion of their duties. Milton S. Eisenhower, brother of former U.S. president Dwight D. Eisenhower, served as president of Penn State from 1950 to 1956.
Colangelo, Ziegler, Wollan Win Smeal's Fred Brand, Jr. Awards For Excellence
Gus Colangelo, Raeshel Ziegler, and Patricia Wollan have been named 2002-2003 Fred Brand, Jr. Award recipients for Penn State’s Smeal College of Business. The awards, which annually recognize excellence in teaching and advising at the college, will be presented on March 27 during a ceremony at the Nittany Lion Inn.
English Only In The Workplace?
Between 1990 and 2000, census data show that the portion of Americans with a primary language other than English rose from 14 to 20 percent of the population. In California, 40 percent of families speak a language other than English at home. Foreign languages are not confined to the home. They naturally spill over into work places, and that's where things get a little dicey.
Smeal Celebrates 50th Anniversary & New Building With Blue-White Weekend Kickoff
Penn State’s Smeal College of Business will kickoff its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 26 (Blue-White Weekend) at the corner of Park Avenue and Shortlidge Road—the future site of the college’s new building. Current students, alumni, and the entire Penn State community are invited to join the festivities and be a part of an historic aerial photograph at 11 a.m. The party begins at 10 a.m.

Six new members have been named to the Board of Visitors of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business. The Board provides advice and counsel to the Dean and other administrators of the Smeal College.

Picower Foundation Grant Funds Expanded Seminar For Smeal Freshmen
Penn State’s Smeal College of Business has been awarded a grant from The Picower Foundation for the development of an expanded seminar for first-year undergraduate business students. The one-year grant of $250,000 is renewable for the next three years for a total of $1 million, with the Smeal College contributing an additional $100,000 annually.

Jacquelyn B. (Jacqui) Gates, Ethics Officer for the World Bank Group, will be the guest speaker for the March 28 G. Albert Shoemaker Program in Business Ethics at Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business. The program, which is free and open to the public, begins at 4 p.m. in the Keller Building Auditorium.
