Accounting Professor To Be Honored At Special Reception And Dinner
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA-A special reception and dinner in honor of Professor Robert W. Koehler will take place 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel. Koehler is the PricewaterhouseCoopers' Faculty Teaching Fellow in Accounting and associate professor of accounting in Penn State's Smeal College of Business. He will retire on June 30, 2002, after 39 years of service to the University. Tickets for the event are $40 per person. The reception begins at 5:30 in the Penn Stater's Terrace. The dinner is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in President's Hall III & IV.
In addition to the dinner, contributions are being accepted to the Robert W. Koehler Endowment in Accounting. The endowment supports students who have been accepted into the Schreyer Honors College and majoring in accounting in Smeal College by providing monies for research, travel, and scholarship. Koehler has served as coordinator for the Accounting Internship Program from 1968-1993, supervised numerous Master's Theses and Undergraduate Honors Theses, served on several Doctoral Dissertation Committees, Doctoral Candidacy Committees, M.S. Degree Committees and Undergraduate Honors Committees. He has served as Faculty Director of Smeal College's Schreyer Honors Program since 1994.
His areas of expertise include managerial and cost accounting and his research has appeared in numerous journals, including Management Accounting . The Institute of Management Accountants awarded a Certificate of Merit to three of the articles in Management Accounting .
During his career, Koehler has received other accolades for his teaching abilities. He was the recipient of Penn State's 1992 Lester L. Shonto Award for Excellence in Accounting Education, the 1994 Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs' Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, the 1997 Faculty Associates Award for work with students outside of the classroom, and the 1999 G. Kenneth Nelson Outstanding Chapter Adviser Award. He was recognized in 1994 for 40 years of continuous involvement with Phi Sigma Kappa by the establishment of the Dr. Robert W. Koehler Endowment. In January 2002, the Penn State Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi and the Department of Accounting selected Koehler as their Accounting Alumnus of the Year. He has been a member of the University Marshal Corps since 1988, and is one of the chairpersons of the University Hearing Board (since 1990), and he has taught in Peru, Zimbabwe, and Jamaica.
He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Penn State in 1958 and 1960 respectively and his Ph.D. from Michigan State in 1967.
