Two doctoral students in Penn State's Smeal College of Business Administration are receiving awards from the College for their research on e-business.
Research projects by Daewon Sun and Jane Feng, both doctoral students in the Department of Management Science & Information Systems, were selected as "best papers" among their peers in the Research Seminar in eBusiness (MIS 597F). Professor Hemant Bhargava of Management Science & Information Systems teaches the seminar, which includes students from MS&IS, marketing, and logistics.
"The course aims specifically to encourage and facilitate students towards conducting research on e-commerce topics, and generally to give students a chance to plunge into the research process. The 'Best Paper Contest' recognizes the high quality research conducted by our doctoral students," says Bhargava.
All the students in the seminar choose a problem of interest, conduct research, and write a term paper--possibly in collaboration with a faculty member.
Sun's paper was entitled, "Inventory Management in e-Business: An EOQ Approach with Compensation Policy." Professors Anant Balakrishnan, Hemant Bhargava and Susan Xu guided Sun's work.
Feng's paper was entitled, "Selling Multiple Quantities in Sequential Auctions: One Period or Two?" Dr. Kalyan Chatterjee and Dr. Anthony Kwasnica guided Feng's research.
The eBusiness Research Center and the Institute for the Study of Business Markets sponsored the awards. The winners will receive their awards in a special ceremony on February 14 during the Smeal College of Business Administration's faculty meeting.
